Sian's PhD research utilised Pierre Bourdieu's theoretical 'tool kit' in order to explore the long-term issues faced by stroke survivors living in the community.
The study was funded by The Chief Scientist Office (CSO); part of the Scottish Government Health Directorates.
From 2006 to 2007 she studied for her MSc in Social Research Methods at The University of Edinburgh. Her research focused on the relationship between men, masculinity and the beauty industry. The theoretical focus of the dissertation drew predominantly from the philosophy of Ludwig Wittgenstein.
In 2006 she obtained an MA (Hons) in Social Anthropology, also from The University of Edinburgh.
