Thesis Title: Help-seeking helps: Help-seeking as a strategy for managing group image

Dr. Nick Hopkins

About

I completed my PhD. in Social Psychology at Dundee University in 2011, and was supervised by Dr. Nick Hopkins. My PhD. research concerned the act of help-seeking, and investigated whether group members may use help-seeking as a tool to manage and enhance their group's image in the eyes of others. In general terms, my research interests lie within the domains of Social Identity Theory and Self Categorization Theory, and the implications of group membership for people's everyday lives.

I am currently employed at Dundee University as a post-doctoral researcher on 4-year ESRC-funded project run by Professor Fabio Sani. This is a longitudinal and cross-national study on the effects of identification with groups (e.g., the family, community, and workplace) on health and well-being, and will involve over 4,000 participants.
